Bertila Boyd-Bostic was looking forward to starting a family once she and her husband, Antoine Bostic, both graduates of Mercer University School of Law in Georgia, had built their own law firm, Bostic & Boyd, in Columbia, South Carolina. But in 2016, she was diagnosed with mesothelioma and, on Oct. 29, died at age 30. Her husband is now part of a trial against Johnson & Johnson, claiming Boyd-Bostic's lifetime use of its baby powder caused her to get one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Lax drug controls and an unreported act by a resident known for inappropriate sexual behaviour were revealed during investigations by the city's auditor general at city-run long-term care homes. Auditor general Ken Hughes didn't identify the long-term care home where the sexual incident happened, or the exact date, although it happened in 2017.

GEZ verfassungswidrig?: Gericht fällt Urteil - Rundfunkgebühr auf dem Prüfstand


Der Streit um die GEZ geht nun in die nächste Runde. Erstmals hat das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig den staatlichen Rundfunkbeitrag für die öffentlich-rechtlichen Sender für unrechtmäßig erklärt.


Jeden Monat dürfen alle Privathaushalte 17,50 Euro zahlen, um in den Genuß des Fernseh- und Radioempfangs zu kommen. Verweigerer oder Rückständler bekommen schnell Besuch vom GEZ-Eintreiber. Doch was ist, wenn tatsächlich kein Empfangsgerät im Haushalt vorhanden ist? Nun hat das BVG Leipzig ein möglicherweise richtungsweisendes Urteil gefällt.

Die Arbeit des Beitragsservice wird durch einen Verwaltungsrat gesteuert und überwacht, der sich aus Vertretern der Landesrundfunkanstalten der ARD, des ZDF und des Deutschlandradio zusammensetzt. Ein unabhängiger Ombudsmann nimmt im Bedarfsfall vertrauliche Hinweise auf Unregelmäßigkeiten in Verbindung mit dem Geschäftsbetrieb des Beitragsservice entgegen.

GEZ-Klage wegen Zusatzbeitrag in Herbergen

Eine Besitzerin eines Hostels in Neu-Ulm hatte gegen den zusätzlichen GEZ-Betrag von 5,83 Euro pro Gästezimmer geklagt. Denn in ihren vermieteten Räumen befindet sich weder ein Radio, Internet noch ein TV-Gerät. Angefangen beim Verwaltungsgericht in Augsburg über das Verwaltungsgericht in München blieb die Klage der Hostelbetreiberin allerdings ohne Erfolg. Der Zusatzbeitrag wurde eingefordert.

Kein Empfang - Keine GEZ

Nun hat das Bundesverwaltungsgericht in Leipzig allerdings entschieden: Der GEZ-Betrag von 5,83 Euro für jedes Gästezimmer ist verfassungswidrig, da keinerlei Empfangsmöglichkeiten vorliegen. Ähnliche Klagen in Bezug auf den Zusatzbeitrag der GEZ waren in den letzten Jahren erfolglos. Nun muss der Bayerische Verwaltungsgerichtshof prüfen, ob es tatsächlich keine Empfangsmöglichkeiten im Hostel gibt.
