A U.S. appeals court on Wednesday affirmed a ruling that pharmaceutical company Merck & Co dishonestly obtained patent rights and was not entitled to collect a $200 million infringement verdict it won against rival Gilead Sciences Inc. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a June 2016 ruling that the two Merck patents, which cover methods of treating Hepatitis C, were unenforceable because of a pattern of misconduct by the company, including lying under oath by one of its in-house lawyers. A Gilead spokesman said the company was very pleased with the ruling and believe it was "justified and well supported by the record."

Der Beitrags­service hilft und berät Sie in allen Fragen rund um den Rundfunk­beitrag. Als Gemeinschafts­einrichtung von ARD, ZDF und Deutschland­radio ist er für die Abwicklung des Beitrags­einzugs und die Verwaltung der rund 44,5 Millionen Beitrags­konten zuständig.
Der Beitragsservice ist eine Gemeinschaftseinrichtung von ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio mit dem Auftrag, den Rundfunkbeitrag einzuziehen. Damit in diesem Zusammenhang die höchsten Datenschutzkriterien für Ihre persönlichen Daten gewährleistet werden können, betreibt der Beitragsservice ein eigenes Rechenzentrum und hat eine eigene Datenschutzbeauftragte. Geschäftsführer des Beitragsservice von ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio ist Dr. Stefan Wolf.
Die Arbeit des Beitragsservice wird durch einen Verwaltungsrat gesteuert und überwacht, der sich aus Vertretern der Landesrundfunkanstalten der ARD, des ZDF und des Deutschlandradio zusammensetzt. Ein unabhängiger Ombudsmann nimmt im Bedarfsfall vertrauliche Hinweise auf Unregelmäßigkeiten in Verbindung mit dem Geschäftsbetrieb des Beitragsservice entgegen.

Grundlage für die Erhebung des Rundfunkbeitrags und die Arbeit des Beitragsservice von ARD, ZDF und Deutschlandradio ist der von allen 16 Landesparlamenten ratifizierte Rundfunkbeitragsstaatsvertrag (RBStV). Er legt fest, wie der Rundfunkbeitrag berechnet wird, wer ihn zu zahlen hat und für wen besondere Regelungen gelten.

Zusätzlich hat jede Landesrundfunkanstalt eine Beitragssatzung erlassen. Die Satzungen sind im Wesentlichen wortgleich. Sie wurden durch die zuständigen Behörden in jedem Bundesland genehmigt. Exemplarisch finden Sie hier die Beitragssatzung des Südwestrundfunks.

A La Jolla restaurant owner accused of sexually assaulting four women over a nine-year period pleaded not guilty Monday to 14 felony charges, including assault with intent to commit a sex crime, sexual battery and intercourse with an unconscious person.
