Clinical trial fails to disclose risk of death, repeat heart attacks, group says

Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach is one of dozens of hospitals across the country selected to participate in the Myocardial Ischemia and Transfusion or MINT trial, a clinical trial sponsored by the National Institutes of Health to test blood transfusion therapies for heart attack patients with anemia. A nonprofit consumer advocacy group, Public Citizen, has asked federal regulators to suspend enrollment in the MINT trial, calling the study unethical because it fails to inform patients of the risk of death or repeat heart attacks.
