INDEPTH: Taking steps to keep our food supply safe


A recent scare involving hepatitis A and frozen strawberries imported from Egypt led Indiana health officials to join an investigation last month into a multi-state outbreak of the foodborne disease. Despite concerns, there have been no reported cases of hepatitis A contracted from potentially contaminated strawberries in Indiana, said Pam Pontones, a state epidemiologist with the Indiana State Department of Health.
