Family, friends recall contributions of former Genzyme executive Henri Termeer

Hundreds gathered on the MIT campus Saturday morning to celebrate the life of Henri Termeer, the former Genzyme Corp. chief executive who oversaw the company's growth from a small local firm to a global life sciences powerhouse. Termeer, 71, who died May 12 after collapsing in his Marblehead home, is also credited with helping to build the biotechnology industry, which employs more than 60,000 people in Massachusetts, including about 5,000 at the company now called Sanofi Genzyme.
